Experience
Mauro Ristorto is a
senior consultant for IPD Latin America in Caracas, joining the company in
October, 2003.
Prior to joining IPD,
Mauro was employed for thirteen years by PDVSA where he worked in the company's
natural gas business. Mauro began his career as a project engineer working on
both industrial and residential gas infrastructure.
He has been involved in
the restructuring of departments within PDVSA and the creation of new
companies/affiliates. Mauro was an integral participant in the organizational
design of Corpoven’s Gas Department restructuring in 1996, and the
creation of PDVSA Gas in 1997.
The bulk of Mauro's
experience was obtained in PDVSA's planning and new businesses development
departments. He was part of the team responsible for the outsourcing (BOO) of a
US$ 640 million NGL complex in eastern Venezuela successfully executed in 1998.
In 1999 he helped write
a proposal, directed to the Venezuelan Government, to develop the gas business
in Venezuela. This proposal resulted in the creation of the Organic Gaseous
Hydrocarbons Law as well as the Anaco non-associeted gas development plan.
Mauro has worked
extensively in the development of regulatory and tariff framework for gas
distribution.
Since 2001 Mauro was
part of the PDVSA team in charge of the negotiations and analysis for Mariscal
Sucre LNG, a US$ 2.7 billion venture to be developed jointly with Shell and
Mitsubishi in eastern Venezuela.
Mauro has a broad
background in economic and financial analysis, market research and business
development with an emphasis on the Venezuelan energy sector. He has a
significant understanding of the different dynamics affecting the Venezuelan
energy sector and their implications related to development activities.
Mauro graduated with
honors from UCAB (Universidad Catolica Andres Bello) where he obtained a degree
in Civil Engineering. He also graduated with an MBA in the same University, and
has undertaken
further courses in finance, business development and planning.
He is fluent in
Spanish, English and Italian.

Natural Gas
Probabilistic Supply and Demand Balance for Venezuela: (IPD Latin America,
October 2004) This report examines domestic supply and demand issues in
Venezuela with a focus on eastern Venezuela. Demand projects in the
country's power, petrochemical, steel and aluminum, power, industrial and
commercial and domestic sectors are specifically identified. The report
reviews regulatory development as driver for demand and discusses all current
and potential supply options, including exploration opportunities. An
addendum to this study was completed in January 2005 to include a detailed
review of gas reinjecetion requirements for North Monagas oil recovery.
